ENWEndNote BIBJabRef, Mendeley RISPapers, Reference Manager, RefWorks, Zotero AMA APA Chicago Harvard MLA Vancouver Introduction: The study aims to assess the visual outcomes 1 year after bilateral implantation of AT LARA 829MP (Carl Zeiss Meditec, Jena, Germany) extended depth of focus (EDoF) intraocular lenses (IOLs). Material and methods: The prospective study included 40 eyes of 20 patients with a mean age of 63.8 years who underwent binocu¬ar implantation of AT LARA IOLs. The following were analyzed: refraction; binocular visual acuity (VA) logMAR for distance (uncorrected distance visual acuity, UDVA), intermediate visual acuity (UIVA) at 60, 70, and 80 cm, and near visual acuity (UNVA); defocus curve; contrast sensitivity (CS); spectacle independence; modified visual function test questionnaire–25 (VFQ-25); perception of photic phenomena; qualification tests for professional drivers; as well as motility coordination. Results: Postoperatively, the mean cylinder, and spherical equivalent (SE) values were –0.55 ±0.29 D, and –0.67 ±0.29 D, respectively. The mean binocular UDVA was –0.03 ±0.07, UIVA values were 0.14 ±0.16 at 60 cm, 0.18 ±0.17 at 70 cm, 0.2 ±0.17 at 80 cm, and UNVA was 0.15 ±0.1. In the defocus curve, the best VA was obtained at a vergence of –0.50D. CS was within the normal range. The frequency of photic phenomena was 75%. Overall satisfaction was high (1.9 ±0.55). Six patients reported the need for reading glasses. Three patients underwent Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy. Mobility (TUG) and the dynamic postural balance task were within the normal range. The results of tests for professional drivers were abnormal in 12 patients. Conclusions: AT LARA IOL provides very good visual function for far, and good for intermediate and near distances, and good visual-motion coordination. This lens may be considered for professional drivers, albeit with caution. |
