Introduction
Analysis of cases of eyelid tumors scheduled for surgical excision.
Material and methods
This retrospective study included 91 patients (61 women and 30 men) aged 48 to 90 years. All patients underwent surgical excision or biopsy of eyelid lesions between September 2022 and February 2024. Malignant lesions were suspected in all cases during preoperative evaluation. Following surgery, all specimens underwent histopathological examination.
Results
Basal cell carcinoma, the most common lesion in the study group, was diagnosed in 75 patients. Benign or malignant changes confirmed in the remaining cases included: seborrheic keratosis, actinic keratosis, squamous cell carcinoma, cutaneous melanoma, Merkel cell carcinoma, papillomatous squamous cell carcinoma, molluscum contagiosum, and melanocytic nevus. Histopathological examination revealed no pathological changes in 3 patients.
Conclusions
Eyelid tumors, particularly those with macroscopic features suggestive of malignancy, require complete surgical excision and thorough histopathological evaluation to ensure accurate diagnosis and enable appropriate subsequent treatment.
