Introduction
The aim of the study was to evaluate clinical outcomes, including visual acuity and patient satisfaction, following immediate sequential bilateral cataract surgery with implantation of the Tecnis Eyhance DIB00 monofocal-plus intraocular lens (Johnson & Johnson), over a 12-month follow-up period in a Polish cohort.
Material and methods
A total of 214 eyes of 107 patients who underwent immediate sequential bilateral cataract surgery with implantation of the Tecnis Eyhance DIB00 monofocal-plus intraocular lens (Johnson & Johnson) were retrospectively analyzed. Surgical procedures were performed at the Warsaw Eye Hospital between 2021 and 2023. Contrast sensitivity and visual acuity, both uncorrected and best-corrected, were evaluated at 6 and 12 months postoperatively at near (30 cm), intermediate (70 cm), and distance vision under varying lighting conditions. In addition, patients completed a postoperative Refractive Cataract Surgery Survey (RCSS) to determine their level of satisfaction with treatment outcomes.
Results
No postoperative deterioration in contrast sensitivity was observed. Uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) and best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) were, respectively, 0.76 and 0.18 logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution (logMAR) for near (30 cm); 0.03 and –0.04 logMAR for intermediate (70 cm); and 0.05 and 0.02 logMAR for distance vision. None of the patients reported undesirable photic phenomena, such as halos or glare. The maximum score on the RCSS was 10 points, with higher scores indicating greater satisfaction with binocular distance and near vision without spectacle correction. The mean patient satisfaction score was 8 points.
Conclusions
The Tecnis Eyhance DIB00 lens implanted during immediate sequential bilateral cataract surgery provided good near, intermediate, and distance UCVA outcomes, which remained consistent under different lighting conditions. The results indicate useful near UCVA, extending beyond the expected functional range of a monofocal-plus lens. Postoperative refraction remained stable throughout the 12-month follow-up, with no significant decline in visual acuity and no clinically significant posterior capsule opacification.
